When Islamo-Fascist Just Won't Do
Try Islamo-Nazi! Michael Medved, the world's most offended movie critic, does!
Check out this graf of Medved's recent upchuck over former Bush faith-baser David Kuo and his new book Tempting Faith:
The political struggles of the moment really do matter -- to defend our beloved country from the very real horrors of Islamo-Nazi terror, to protect the institution of marriage from irrevocable alteration, to save some of the millions of babies lost each year to abortion, to defeat the madness of multiculturalism and to affirm the importance of one nation, under God, indivisible. When compared to the consequences of defeat in these battles (a defeat that Kuo seems to crave and recommend) his obsession with faith-based anti-poverty initiatives seems petty, almost childish.
Forget that Kuo's dog-bites-man book -- Bush political operatives do not take evangelicals seriously. And? -- deserved the slap, does Medved really believe Osama is studying runes from pre-Christian Europe? I demand that Medved stop writing screechy columns and reviewing movies he hates and complete the book that will show all the links that Medved has established between National Socialism in Germany and the worldwide Islamic terror movement.
That would be a great read. Better movie, even.
Update: I'm reminded that Nick Gillespie noted the initial Medvedian deployment of Islamo-Nazi back in July at Wonkette.

A writer who thinks it's impossible for people of different
cultures to live among each other in unity, and who thinks that it
is inevitable for different cultures to end up at war with one
another, are in no position to call anyone a Nazi.
Spare me the "ein volk" crap. Some of us can actually get along in
a culturally diverse society, Mike.

In the aftermath of Friday's riot at Fontana High School, many
students and witnesses said the violence was rooted in
long-standing racial tensions between blacks and Latinos in the
area.
Although law-enforcement officials have stopped short of
attributing the 90-minute melee that involved roughly 500 students
to a racial divide, many experts on ethnic relations contend that
the riot is indicative of a much broader problem.
"The tension between blacks and Latinos is not new, but it's a
recent phenomenon," said Armando Navarro, professor of ethnic
studies at UC Riverside.
"This has been the pattern in L.A. County in the past few years,
and now it's reached this area. From the late 1990s to (the)
present, this conflict has manifested in high schools and in
prisons, and as demographics begin to favor Latinos, it'll foster
more antagonism and increased violence."

It's an appropriate variant of 'fascist.' FWIW, the dictionary
definition of 'fascist' is completely appropriate for Muslims if
you just change 'state' to 'religion.'
The coverage of the Muslim taxi-drivers points out some other
similarities: in places where Muslims have more of a presence (i.e.
England), they're refusing to carry alcohol amd drunks, disabled
people and homosexuals. So far they're still dealing with Jews
(apparently), but that list is quite similar to the lists of
undesirables made up by .... take a guess.

Ugghh, I guess it's necessary to point out the obvious: there are alternatives to racism/separatism and multiculturalism, it's not like they're the only two options out there. I'm all for cultural diversity, but I don't see it as a necessary ideal, and I'm sure as hell no cultural relativist. Gotta love that Taliban culture, after all.

I think "multiculturalism," as used both by its supporters and
its opponents (like Medved), tends to connote not just people of
different backgrounds living together, but an element of compulsory
togetherness as well as denigration of Western culture (the only
culture which, apparently, doesn't get respected under the reign of
"multiculturalism").
Thus, a multi-ethnic community in the U. S. which is
unapologetically based on Western values and where America and its
history are glorified, would not qualify as "multicultural."
That's the multiculturalism which Medved seems to be
criticizing.

While there are people who want to move to the West but have
nothing to do with western lifestyle or beliefs, [like all the
Massachusets liberals who have condos in Vail] most just want to
'join in', not force us to adopt their lifestyle.
Some don't, even after generations, but the majority do, bringing
their music, food and arts to add to the society they are
joining.
In either case, so long as no one's rights are violated - including
the rights of those who may choose to leave the enclaves - it
doesn't matter.

OK, as stupid as "Islamo-Nazi" is, it is actually far more
defensible than "Islamo-Fascist." I challenge anyone to produce
even one reasonable link between Mussolini's ideology and the
ideology of Bin Laden and his ilk. There is on the other hand at
least a vague tenuous link between Nazism and today's jihadists.
The Nazis did spend a little effort encouraging anti-Jewish feeling
in the Middle East in the 1930s and 40s, and subsidized
distribution of classics like "Protocols of Zion." Plenty of
jihadists and radical muslims have praised Hitler, I've never heard
of a jihadist praising Mussolini.
But, more importantly, I think Medved assumes, rightly, that most
of his intended audience has no idea what "fascist" means, but they
do know that "Nazis=bad guys".

Medved didn't say "Nazi-like," he called them Nazis. There are
important differences between Islamist totalitarians and Nazis,
that shouldn't be ignored for the sake of rhetorical
zipiness.

change "state" to "religion," you significantly change the
character of the political and ideological movement.
Of course, your thinking has to go beyond "Dere da bay guyz,

Excuse my ignorance, but if you could point me to the document or
documents in which Al Qaeda asserts that it wants to establish a
totalitarian state and kill all the Jews I would appreciate it. I'm
not saying I don't believe it necessarily, but I'd just like to see
the basis of the claim.
And please, no piece from the fevered imaginings of some pundit.
Provide something in their own words (or at the minimum an
intelligence assessment).

"Islamo-Fascism" is a metaphor. In terms of history, the Ba'ath
Party was modeled on the Italian Fascist Party, but it was founded
by Michel Aflaq, a Syrian Christian.
The Lebanese Phalange was also inspired by Mussolini and Franco,
but it too is a Christian Party that in the 1970's allied with
Israel.
The Nazis did promote the Protocols of Zion in the Middle East, to
arouse Arabs against the Jewish settlements in Palestine, but
previously French and Arab Christians had been promoting the
Protocols.
If you want to call people you don't like "Nazis" or "Fascists" you
can - it's a free country. But the metaphor the neo-cons are
promoting is intended to conflate the anti-Jewish activities of the
Islamists with the Nazi attempt at world conquest that led to World
War II, and so it is a politically motivated but historically messy
metaphor.

Well, he's a talk host, what do you expect? Beyond that though,
"multiculturalism" is a bastard term, i.e. it means all sorts of
different things to all sorts of different people. Aside from its
value to mediocre talkshow hosts as an emotional button-pushing
device, it's meaningless.
Next time someone invokes the M-word in your presence, ask them to
define just what they mean - then sit back and enjoy the tap
dance...

Very true and good suggestion. I accept your correction.
Just because I like pita & houmus doesn't mean I have to
tolerate the subjugation of women. I can take 'multiculturalism' to
mean the former, while someone else may take it to mean the latter
[As in "It's part of our culture, don't interfere."]

I was an unwanted baby who was raised in an environment of poverty
and abuse and I enjoy being alive just as much as you do. The
unhappy childhood thing is followed soon thereafter by an adulthood
of self-determination and plenty of opportunities for happiness.
First, though, you have to be born. I'm very happy that abortion
wasn't readily available in 1951, otherwise I might have been
"saved" from all this misery.

that those who identifiy themsevles as anti-abortion be
specifically taxed to support the welfare state that is going to be
needed to support these children as well as the prisons where they
are more than likely going to end up when they reach adulthood...
