Two electricians doing work at my house this morning, discussing V for Vendetta:
First guy: I thought that one was kind of weird.
Second guy: Oh, I like movies like that.
First guy: The thing is, most of the things the government was doing in that movie, I kind of agreed with. Like, it was locking up the gays and stuff.

Hilarious. Yesterday, my old family priest was in my Dad's shop. He's ordering some 9-11 commemorative postcards with some psalm on one side and the preamble to the Declaration of Independence on the other. He seemed really enthused about these cards, even going so far to say
See, this is how we'll stop Islam, by showing them that America is free
Democracy is ugly. Progressives are often the first to be reminded, and strangely the first to forget.

Thank God we have the conservatives to continually remind us just
how ugly democracy can be.
V for Vendetta was an excellent movie, and one I didn't expect to like. It served as a frightening reminder of where we're all heading.
I'm totally gonna write a song about this. Maybe I'll get Sting to sing backup....
You might have pointed out that in the first scene "they" were
keeping a woman from visiting her gentleman friend.
"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments
should be afraid of their people."
Hey Rimfax - I was singing "see that faggot he's a millionaire" by the time I got to your post.

London?
If that conversation had occurred at my house, first guy would have been told to leave immediately.
Stormy Dragon
They hadn't come for tea, they were there fixing the wiring.
They'll be done soon and Jesse will never have to deal with them
again.
Like, it was locking up the gays and stuff.
Even union electricians like a little m/m bondage now and
again.
Was guy the first giving guy the second a reach-around at that
moment?
The more time passes, the more the mantra of those loudmouth queers
of the past decades makes sense: He who yelps loudest about the
dirty homosexuals is usually the one whose dreams are most
throbbingly populated by burly, long-hosed fireman and lumberjacks
in their underpants. Security in and comfort with one's own
sexuality equals a sincere disinterest in what those other people
do behind closed doors.
Like, it was locking up the gays and stuff.
I fear for the republic. Oh, hell, who am I kidding. I fear for gay
me in the coming republic.
And Isaac: there is a difference between respecting people's
beliefs and supporting scary-ass regressives' economic well-being.
I don't care if Christians pray fervently for me and think I am
going to hell for having a boyfriend; I do care if I give money to
an electrician who think locking me up is a nifty idea. Sending
this guy home doesn't sound like too much of an over-reaction.
maybe if i hadn't read the excellant graphic novel i would have liked the movie better.
Hey Rimfax - I was singing "see that faggot he's a
millionaire" by the time I got to your post.
I saw Knopfler in concert last year and he changed "faggot" to
"cowboy" when he sang Money for Nothing. I was sorely
dissapointed.
I do care if I give money to an electrician who think
locking me up is a nifty idea
A gay/lesbian group in my city puts out a mini-directory with
companies who have chosen to advertise therein. I'd always thought
that was a bit over the top - who really picks a flowershop just
because it's in the Gay Pages?? - but torrentprime's comment
reminds me that targeted advertising can be real handy.
Well, this is about as good a place to pass this on as any other
place, and ought to be fun reading for some:

Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world, has asked for and
received permission to join the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber
of Commerce. The NGLCC is a leading promoter of homosexual
marriage.
Read "Wal-Mart Partners With Gay and Lesbian Group"
Although Wal-Mart has never excluded homosexuals from being
employees, customers, or suppliers, the company wanted to be more
closely identified with promoting the homosexual agenda. Wal-Mart
is now a "corporate member" of the NGLCC, putting their approval on
the NGLCC's efforts to abolish the definition of marriage as the
union of one man and one woman. A Wal-Mart vice president will
serve as an advisor to the NGLCC, helping them promote homosexual
marriage.
Wal-Mart agreed to give $25,000 to the NGLCC and to pay for two
conferences scheduled by NGLCC. Also, Wal-Mart will give
homosexual-owned businesses special treatment when making
purchases. Companies not owned by homosexuals will be moved down
the list.
NGLCC called Wal-Mart's action "part of the company's ongoing
commitment to advancing diversity (homosexuality) among all of its
associate, supplier and customer bases."
Wal-Mart is offering the same kind of support for homosexual
marriage which Ford Motor Company has been giving to homosexual
groups for years.

Gay Pages?? - Bee
C'mon, Bee, are you serving up batting practice? Of course people
will want the gay florist. Talk about reinforcing a
stereotype....
As for Wal*Mart, hey, lesbians need tools.
Kevin
See, this is how we'll stop Islam, by showing them that
America is free
What's actually wrong with that comment?
I mean, obviously no Christian wants Islam to spread. And the
speaker in question was advocating stopping it through nonviolent,
non-coercive speech.
Faggot... Cowboy...What's the difference?
One rides horses... nevermind.
My point was that when Knopfler originally wrote the song the
lyrics were based upon the ramblings of two ignorant department
store workers... hence no homophobia... hence no need to change the
lyrics to something more PC.
As for Wal*Mart, hey, lesbians need tools.
Not to mention ugly, formless clothing.
ohhhh, count it!
