As Nick noted on Monday, I'll be speaking tonight at the Robert Taft Club in Arlington, Virginia, on the topic "Do the American People Get the Government They Deserve?" My co-panelists will be the libertarian muckraker Jim Bovard and the paleo prof Paul Gottfried. I gather that they'll be arguing yea and I'll be arguing nay, sprinkled with whatever nuances we'd like to add.

... Duke It Out in the Suburbs ...
Technically true, but for those of you unfamiliar with this section
of the People's Republic of Arlington, you'll find more bars and
restaurants in that neighborhood than in many parts of Upper N.W.
Washington.
Read the headline and wondered if the Gottfried was Gilbert. Now that would be so much more fun!
I would love to see that! I might be at odds with everyone else here but I say you do get the government you deserve. Of course when I say we, I'm talking the country as a whole. I would prefer to say we got the country the Republicans deserve.
I'd say 51% (or 55%, or whatever the winning margin is) get the
govt they deserve.
Bovard. I'm impressed. I've always wanted to read his work, yet
fear it would raise my BP too high.

I'm not even sure that technically they are right. I don't know a
ton about NoVA history but I know Falls Church and Alexandria both
pre-date The District of Columbia by at least 50 years.
But I suppose functionally most of NoVA qualifies as a
suburban.

Walker, Texas Ranger vs. Gilbert Gottfried? I am so
there.
