Rumor has it... Rob Reiner has thrown in the towel as head of the California First 5 Commission. "We agreed that we cannot let personal political attacks get in the way of doing the very best we can for California's children," said the plus-sized Hollywood quadruple threat. (He acts, produces, directs, and as Jacob Sullum noted, takes money in shady smoking-tax schemes.) Reiner's been under pressure over the commission's unscrupulous spending practices, but long before the state of California turned against him, Reason was playing Archie (or at least Stretch Cunningham) to his Meathead. See the grisly evidence here, here, here, and here.
TVLand Update: Norman Lear saw it all coming more than 30 years ago. Right now, TV Land is showing an All In the Family episode wherein Mike Stivic inherits a bundle of money and donates it to the McGovern campaign rather than paying Archie the room and board he owes.

This has more to to with Meathead's planned Governor run in '08
than anything else.
Also note that he hasn't withdrawn his support for the proposition
that will jack up tobacco taxes to insane levels in CA.
"We agreed that we cannot let personal political attacks get
in the way of doing the very best we can for California's
children"
Shouldn't there be a superscripted "TM" after "children?"

Heavens, no, "THE CHILDREN" are in the public domain. They belong
to us us all.

"just hope the cloud from clooney doesn't meet up with the
hybrid car one :)"
Very funny south park episode last night. Very funny.
I heard him talking on the news about this and it was cool that
he still sounds the same.
Except that that includes still sounding a little whiny.
Y'know, the older I get, the wiser Archie Bunker sometimes
seems.
As for Meathead, well...
