Today's the last day to vote for the Best Group Blog in the 2005 Weblog Awards. Hit and Run is still leading by about 500 votes, but it ain't over yet, so hit that puppy one last time before midnight. (Hit and Run does not endorse hitting actual puppies.)

I think the award administrators discounted several hundred votes from some of our more (ahem) "committed" readers who found a way around the one-vote-per-day limit.

That's fine, it's deleting the file from your computer that says you already voted then re-voting that caused the dropoff in total votes.

I voted this morning and it still says H&R has over 5400 votes. I'm running XPpro, tried refreshing the page. Any way I can get an update? What's the latest total? Are they done taking our votes away?

i hope hit and run loses by about 7 votes to red state...one vote less then the amount of votes I would have contributed if I was able to buy a black reason t-shirt (size large please)

The total votes for Hit and Run have been reduced by 1440 votes for for excessive voting from three IP address.

Some people have a bit too much time one their hands. Athletics Nation and Xiaxue were even worse, though I think H&R wins on excess votes per IP address.

Silly static-IP ballot stuffers. Everyone knows the efficient web poll cheater scripts a box on his network to connect to a dynamic-IP dialup account, vote, delete the marking file, then disconnect - in an endless loop with a randomized repeat delay added to avoid detection.

Hypothetically.
