Nick:

Fucking brilliant. Best thing I've read from you since the "child-proofing the world" article (thanks to the copy of Choice I got).

I agree with jf, fucking brilliant.

However, I cannot comment on the "child-proofing the world" article since I never recieved the copy of Choice I was promised when I renewed my subscription.

I guess these bozos haven't thought through the fact that there may well be people that consider some of their favorite content indecent or damaging to children. Personally, I consider religious indoctrination quite damaging to kids, and get extremely offended when I see it. Guess it must be time to yank those re-runs of "Touched by an Angel"...

Sen. Stevens needs some Janice Soprano anal action in the worst way.

Most American's don't want this legislation. The problem is the ones that load up in church busses on election day do. Unfortunately those are the only ones these douchebags give a rat's ass about.

I agree with ralphus.

The religious right voters have become a major force in politics. The douche bags know that if they cater to the religious right then they have a better chance of getting re-elected. But I think that the politicians are going to get a rude awakening when most of them get their asses booted out of office.

Note: I hope that Sen. Ted Stevens gets booted out and never returns to politics.

Nick,

That was fantastic. Thank you.

But the other problem is the Democrats are falling all over themselves to attract "values voters" while failing to realize that "values voters" will never vote for them. Add to that the fact that the PC left is just as eager to control what we see and hear as the religious right and the future doesnt look to bright. What's indecent and profane to the Right is sexist and degrading to the Left. So even if we boot this current crop of douchebags out the First Amendment is still going to get fucked Chinese fingercuffs style from both sides of the aisle.

Why is it that whenever the left steals an idea from the right, it's invariably one of their bad ideas?

All this because a poll showed that about 20% of voters reported their votes were determined by "moral values".

You'd think the fact that this poll also showed that 80% of us did not cast our votes based on these moral values might make some kind of impression on them. D'ya think?

I agree with most of the posts here - Freedom of Expression still (barely) survives here in the USA - that said though most of what I see on NETWORK television today stinks like rotten ass sugar for the masses..regardless though if that's what people want..there ya go..and rightly protected regardless of a few "high level officials"

Ironically, the Christian right is also whining about how they are always oppressed. It bugs the shit out of me when I hear a Christian leader talking how Christianity is under attack in the United States, yet they keep trying to limit free speech, freedom of expression, and free choice.

I think this is one of the reasons that Christians are some times stereotyped as narrow-minded hypocrites, and its pretty sad because from my experiences, I found that a lot Christians are reasonable and tolerate people.

I'm feeling typically cynical about this issue. The government is not going to allow things like cable/satellite or the internet to exist for long without having their hands all over it. Governments are usually very, very reluctant to share power over the masses.

And the article was a great read. Thanks!

On the topic of child-proofing,
Can anyone tell me why, with all the great sex and violence on tv, my kid only ever watches Spongebob Squarepants and Danny Phantom? It's enough to make one think that the assumption that an ever increasing choice of viewing necessarily leads to an increase in the viewing of vile content might be less than compelling.

Sigh... So much for my self-imposed exile. I guess you can't go cold turkey with H&R:

You see mk, even though your child is not choosing to watch objectionable material, somewhere out there, some impressionable young mind is being warped to rapine and violence due the the hyponotic power of the "smut" they are seeing on TV. If censorship can just save ONE child...

Besides, we all know that Spongebob is brainwashing children for the Gay Agenda and Danny Phantom is a recruiting film for Satanism what with the ghosts, demons, magic, and all. ;)

a great article, and I agree with everything it's about, but I'm tempted to wonder...
principles of free expression aside, why does anything related to TV matter? it doesn't.

The most disturbing speaker at Tuesday's hearing was the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Kevin Martin. "You can always turn the television off and, of course, block the channels you don't want," he observed. "But why should you have to?"

So your not told what to do and when to do it, you lame ass. Have some balls and want to make a choice for yourself, instead of having someone else make one for you.

Larry A|12.2.05 @ 1:17PM|

cable and satellite programming that 85 percent of households willingly pay for each and every month

This is not clear evidence that the material presented on these channels meets the "acceptable by community standards" test?

"You can always turn the television off and, of course, block the channels you don't want," he (Kevin Martin) observed. "But why should you have to?"

Dumbass. Because if you censor them I won't be able to turn them on or unblock them. And neither will the millions of other people who are watching more HBO and Showtime than they are the censored broadcast channels.

This is the kind of objectionable material that makes me want to block C-Span.

Thanks Akira. I forgot to see the bogeyman behind every tv character. Just goes to show how one can be lulled into a false sense of security by the liberal media. I also failed to notice that Fairly Oddparents clearly promotes children abandoning their natural families for the company of magical "Fairies", how transparently pro-gay is that?!

Sheesh, I even forgot that Tinky-Winky had long ago turned my child gay anyway ;)
