Of course it's possible. It's even as likely as not, but since we
will never know it anyway, why bother to ask?
I think it's a good question. I could imagine there being some rich folks out there, who upon hearing about the pres' ban, would jump up to help out, believing in the technology. Maybe a relative had died or was currently suffering from a condition that could possibly be alleviated by things stemming from stem cell research. Or maybe they're secular folks who hate seeing the religious nuts get the upper hand? There's all kinds of scenarios that make extremely possible, if not very likely.
