Look at Showboat and Giant for an example of the attitude of America toward segregation. I remember then that I intentionally moved into an integrated neighborhood. The standard sign, then, that a California restaurant did not want black customers was the "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" Liberal whites avoided those places.The government and the courts were following the people. Earl Warren sent his children across town to avoid having them go to integrates schools. It was only after his own kids were full grown that he got religion.
