Well, I'm not quite hip enough to recognize the bloke by name, but when I looked it up and found he was in Big Star, well then, I was at least hip enough to nod cooly and feel independently gratified.
If he died in Memphis, that'd be cool.
Memphis worships him (or rather, the alt-coolness he confers on
Memphis) with near-diety status. That would just be the icing on
the cake for Memphis, which already reeks of being a music museum.
It's heyday is long gone, but they'll be moldily reliving the glory
years for centuries to come.

Huh. I always thought becuase of that Replacements song that he was, uh... dead. Guess not! PS I bought the first two Big Star albums a few months ago to see what all the fuss was about - great stuff.
