But what happened to Fats?

The water by his house was soul deep.

Well, I'm not quite hip enough to recognize the bloke by name, but when I looked it up and found he was in Big Star, well then, I was at least hip enough to nod cooly and feel independently gratified.

If he died in Memphis, that'd be cool.

Where's Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown?

If he died in Memphis, that'd be cool.

Memphis worships him (or rather, the alt-coolness he confers on Memphis) with near-diety status. That would just be the icing on the cake for Memphis, which already reeks of being a music museum. It's heyday is long gone, but they'll be moldily reliving the glory years for centuries to come.

If it's diety, that would be sugar-free icing, of course. :)

Huh. I always thought becuase of that Replacements song that he was, uh... dead. Guess not! PS I bought the first two Big Star albums a few months ago to see what all the fuss was about - great stuff.

I'm in love with that song.

New Orleans radio station WWOZ has an ongoing list of local musicians alive and accounted for. (Among the names you'll know are Fats, Allan Toussaint, and the inimitable Susan Cowsill...)
