As has been pointed out elsewhere on Reason, perhaps the War on Terror will bankrupt the War on Drugs, and we can undo some of that nonsense.

Well. Wouldn't that be scary.
I think more than anything, just one suicide bomber anywhere within the US would be horrifically paralyzing and would send the area into shock and fear.
I am amazed though that it has still not happened with everything that we've seen around the world.

wsdave: Since when has the lack of funds caused the government to cut an expensive and useless program? Especially one with as many dependant careers as the WOD. What we'll probably get is some unholy amalgamation of both. I foresee slogans like: "Whenever you toke, a US tank goes up in smoke"

It's an ill wind, as they say, and the good that was blown our way this time was a gratuitous Runaways reference!

Google returns zero hits on "newsburger helper."
Good one, JAT, I hope this one takes hold. A snappy term that might help people get their heads around how the TeeVee Nooz works.

Deux,
The government is planning to dismantle the TSA, or at least is making overtures that it intends to do so. Might be a first, I agree.

There was one more update Taylor didn't like, about the Guinean teen:

Yes, Virginia, the government does go after sixteen year old girls.

Why would you say that Taylor "didn't like" that update? The NYT story you linked to fits perfectly well with his article.

Rapid typing error. I meant to write that Taylor didn't _link_ it. I actually believe Nina Bernstein has written one other followup, and the NYT ran an editorial on the story today.
