Revolution or Intifada?

I have no frickin' clue, but Jefferson Morley parses the disconnect over what to call happenings in Lebanon. Words matter, no surprise there.

But I wonder when it comes down to it, if Washington really cares one way or the other. In fact, come up with a way to deal with Hezbollah, and I'm pretty sure U.S. policymakers will gladly quit the name game.

If the U.S. had a history of advancing peace even when it doesn't coincide with Israeli interests, I could take this comment seriously.

As it stands, I don't see us "not caring" about a movement that equates itself (in name at least) with the Palestinian cause.

H&R is certainly libertarian oriented and that comes with an anti-war bias against wars that are unnecessary for our defense, such as the Iraq war. One would hope that most folks are mostly anti-war most of the time. ;)

Concerning the current consensus of the parlance at H&R: It's far more anti-war and anti-government foreign intervention in general then it was in the months before our government's attack on Iraq.

One wonders what you have against the term "insurgency." It merely means the armed effort to overthrow a government. Its a very neutral term.

That's the term the Lebanese themselves are using. If you'd care to take a break from lecturing people about how much more devoted to democracy you are, and how much more racist they are, perhaps you can explain why the indigineous Arab term for their uprising is inappropriate for your political viewpoint.
