It's nearly impossible now to insist you had no idea that, say, your favorite fast-food chain was such a terrible corporate citizen,
I disagree.
It's not that I didn't have time, it's that I didn't care enough to click.
So I still have no idea.

This is just a further deepening of the pure power of capitalism.. Although most of the essays are stridently anti-capitalist, the book "Commodify Your Dissent" raises an interesting point about the potential for this type of shopping to leave many who would express their dissent in more impactful ways to feel as if they have done enough simply with their purchases.
However, an alternate perspective is that perhaps there are many out there for whom the first step in expressing their political voice is with a purchase.

Re "no business in America is crazy enough to bankroll the Greens, Libertarians..." Bullshit. I know many Libertarian or Green business owners -- all of them are independent.
Of course publicly-traded corporate chain will support the corporate status quo parties--they both shovel taxpayer dollars onto the corporate welfare train.
Anyone who cares about democracy should consider economic democracy (along with getting the best value, of course) by leaning toward independent businesses over chains.
BTW, I attended a talk by the director of the American Independent Business Alliance last year--interesting wave of indie biz owners uniting to fight the chains--good stuff!

Oh, the irony. According to logic of web sites cited in the article, Democrats should all be watching and supporting Fox News.

Ha! Yeah, according to choosetheblue.com, Fox gives 61% of its contributions to Democrats and only 39% to Republicans. Excellent observation, dlc.
I can't wait to work this into a conversation, so I can condemn Fox as a left-leaning, pro-Democrat media outlet.
