Not enough variables in the analysis of the Stryker concept. You don't deter people who use IEDs. You get blown up by them when they target you on the corner of every street. To get them, well, you have to act like Israelis by kicking in doors and restricting movement.
The low presence concept is designed to retaliate in a concentrated manner against massed insurgents, acknowledging that bombers are a domestic problem that unfortunately must be tolerated until there is political participation by the guys ordering the explosions.

It's like those guys in that Chuck Norris picture who tried to knock off the bar where all the local cops hung out...

This is a blog by the company that makes (or maybe just markets) the Jasper Green Laser. Scroll down to the Jan 1st entry to get to the beginning of the kerfuffle.
It is heartening to note that most of the commentators to the blog come down in favor of individual responsibility. Only a few of the posters are willing to hold the manufacturer responsible for the reckless/malicious actions of laser owners.
