Three Was the Magic Number

As the New York Times begins the Peter Jennings deathwatch, a latchkey nation wonders anxiously: who in the post-Big 3 universe is now going to pay for the ghostwriting of such classic pieces of spoon-fed Americana as The Canadian's In Search of America, Diamond Dan's The American Dream, and Slurry Brokaw's Never-ending Generation series? Who will pocket still more millions by letting us grok their hardscrabble, blue-collar personal creation myths? Who now will do the important work of interpreting Iowa, ending terrorism, and teaching us about journalism? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to ... Brian Williams?
