In a rush to air the story, however, they plowed ahead,
instead of following the first rule of journalism: getting their
facts straight.

investigation, we're not going to be able to comment on it," said
FBI agent Bob Garrity of Jackson.
It would be nice if they were able to nail at least a few of the perpetrators who may be still alive. What was done to that poor child is an abomination, as was the trial that followed. The Scottsboro Boys eventually got some measure of justice, but Till still waits for his.
So the "headline" promised more than the story delivered. I
don't really see why this is such a big deal.
That was quite a story, though.
