New at Reason

Peter Bagge explores the wilds of the Pacific Northwest in search of that mythical beast, the conservative, small-government Republican.

10.27.04 @ 2:46PM

There are still plenty small-government conservatives in Idaho.

10.27.04 @ 2:58PM

"Like a true conservative he'd rather settle for the current mess than experience a new mess."

Hah!

10.27.04 @ 3:58PM

Is there any way you could get the resolution on this turned up a little? The artifacts make it impossible to read.

Pssst, Bagge! Um...know where I can score some good midget porn??

I think Bagge's got it right here. For pure tendentiousness and occasional near-mendacity, you can't beat the Republicans.

I've become vastly more libertarian in my thinking over the last few years, and with it have turned away from many of the classic liberal issues and techniques I felt were important. But precious little about Republicanism attracts me.

Republicans are the worst kind of politicians in our blessed land. Unequivocably more dirty than Democrats. Vastly more likely to use dirty tricks. To attack their opponents in dirty ways. To use gerrymandering to further their position. Probably more likely to stick unrelated hobby-horse amendments into legislation. And to call it something like patriotism.

Vastly more likely to define themselves as being on God's side.

Maybe they used to be better. But now they are pond scum. Fuck the Republicans.

I mean, come on - Tom DeLay? What would this man be doing if he wasn't a Congressman?

Hosing down protestors?
Pressuring small shopkeepers to sell their land?
Slavering over demographic maps to figure out how to stay in Congress forever? Oh, wait, he's doing that now.

Somebody tell me why this man shouldn't be horsewhipped, tarred and feathered, keel-hauled, placed in the stockade, pelted with rotten fruit, forced to publish an ad in a newspaper and when he moves to your town, and to hang a sign on his house that says he was a convicted so-and-so.

Dude, you're gonna give yourself a coronary if you go on like that. It's politics, you can't take it seriously or you'll hurt yourself :)

You can tell this is true by the extraordinary lack of corruption in Democrat controlled states and cities like Rhode Island, New Jersey, Chicago, Connecticut...

Good stuff from Mr. Bagge, when I could focus my eyeballs. Could Reason try posting a decent copy of the stuff instead of a scanned photocopy of the pages of the magazine?

It doesn't take that much more bandwidth to set the jpeg compression to a little higher quality. Then you wouldn't get all that distortion around the words. Spend a little, guys. :)
