Hugh Hewitt wants congressional hearings into CBS's role in CoverYourAssgate. In other words, just as we're discovering how effectively a decentralized Pajama Nation can serve as a media watchdog, it's time to hand the task over to Congress, which is well equipped to decide what counts as "responsible journalism" in an election season. It's actually a great idea if you can get over the "utterly guaranteed to become a total partisan clusterfuck" snag.

May be the Republicans (is Hewit a repub?) are trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - they pushed Clinton's screw-up, and amazingly ended up at the short end of the stick.

I like Hugh, he's a pretty good talk show host, but the whole Congress idea is just terrible. It's not like the issue is being suppressed, it's being discussed on the Web and in the media non-stop. Let the market work this one out. People will either not care and keep watching CBS, or they will and they�ll start watching some other news program. I can�t see how Congress can add anything useful to the debate, unless you�re a fan of the grandstanding nonsense those sideshows normally turn into.

Ditto Brad. I also follow Hugh, and endorse him as an excellent and fact-sensitive blogger, but I utterly demure from congressional hearings. Don't need 'em, and it would be he "clusterfuck" Julian suggests.

The blogosphere is becoming integrated with the MSM, and we are beholding an information revolution. Leave it be to evolve as it will, and for Christ's sake keep the govt out of it.
