Last summer I took a class titled "Trade & The Environment" at Vermont Law School. One of the articles presented for discussion was written by Bhagwati. Throughout the two week course I constantly referred back to Bhagwati's article, and was continuosly treated with blank, though appalled, stares for doing so. Anyway, towards the end of the course one of the course participants piped up about a website she found - which turned out to be Reason's website. In a condescending tone she referred to the website as one promoting "free trade." Later on during that day's class the professor asked each of us what the best means for curing poverty and environmental problems was - I said bluntly "free trade." You can guess the reaction of my classmates. :)
