Good article, though, by the way. I do have the impression though that Baltimore was probably more interesting in it's day for social history than DC ever was.

Very good piece.

The clearing of commerce along the Mall - Independence and Constitution Aves - and their replacement with stone artifacts (that no one ever seems to go in or out of) was even more extreme than Pennsylvania's. Which is why there's nowhere to get a bite to eat anywhere near the monuments, except for the lousy Smithsonian cafeteria.
