I wonder what adult smoking rates are like there... that would factor into my thinking of this thing as encouraging unhealthy behavior or just a mostly harmless cultural event.

But the most shocking thing for me about this article was that:

"The Italian Government may have fallen into line with many other countries around the world this month, introducing a tough new law banning smoking in bars and restaurants"

What the hell? I thought this was confined to the US. Anyone know what other countries have passed this sort of legislation?

Once, when I was young, I was hanging out in one of New York City's gardens when some older rich kids offered me handfuls of Rosemary joints. I smoked them until I vomited. I don't know how often I smoked them, but I was addicted to the demon herb for many days.

We must face Rosemary with the love of our children. We must face Rosemary with the law!

Just because idiocy shouldn't be against the law, doesn't mean it should be encouraged.

Possibly the most amazing aspect of the event is the fact that it appears to have passed unnoticed for all these years.

Amazing! Nosy journalists and bureaucrats have been asleep at the switch for hundreds of years!

    Whaaa...?

Too funny!!! I love strange traditions as long as they aren't, ahem, harmful.

Isn't that the town they buried Ayn Rand in?

Is this where they resettled Luther and Johnny Htoo?

By the way, Andy D: The US is by no means taking the lead when it comes to restaurant-and-bar smoking bans. Ireland's pubs are smoke-free these days, f'rinstance.

What's up with rosemary? Is it a good buzz? Shakespeare said it was for remembrance, so maybe it'll counteract those pot-induced lapses in mjhnbvjvhbkahh
    Whoa! Where was I?
