The Colonel's Bogus March
The University of Mississippi has handed its Colonel Rebel mascot his walking papers. School officials say it is a matter of updating from an old grey-haired guy to something with more zip and not, we repeat not, an attempt to distance the school from a certain War of Northern Aggression.
But the world has a finite supply of rebel archetypes and I think we can rule out a James Dean-clone in black leather roaming the sidelines at Oxford. That leaves maybe an AK-47 toting Third Worlder, a rock-throwing member of the Intifada, or a version of the street demonstrators soon to hit Sacramento.
All very hip and menacing, although I might be missing some.
