Bussing Solutions

Evan McElravy writes to say that I erred; the cheap buses were not mentioned on his blog. But it seems that the Chinatown lines aren't the only instance of this phenomenon. Writes McElravy, "There is a nightly (except Fridays of course) bus service between Montreal and New York, run by some orthodox Jews. It advertises only on synagogue bulletin boards and the like, but does a good business. I'm told the whole thing is absolutely sketchy in every detail, and speculation is rampant about what must be in the luggage hold."

So there are plenty of alternatives to Greyhound, you just need to know where to look for them.

Sara - why bother with the bus when you could just hitchhike. ;)

other groups too - my heavily-Polish neighborhood has the equivalent.

I'm guessing bagels for the black market. Bus loads two blocks from the famous (and delicious!) Fairmount and St-Viateur bagelries. Tremble, wooden New York bagels!

Check out http://www.washingtondeluxe.com for a cheap (the site says $35.00 round trip, but I only payed $30 when I took it), fast, clean bus to NY from DC.

"..speculation is rampant about what must be in the luggage hold.."

Now you've got me speculating.. rampantly, even. What could be under there? Dead Christian babies? Illegally imported wide-brimmed black hats? Pounds and pounds of stuffed derma? Montreal bagels en route to New York and vice versa? Yossi Piamenta concert bootlegs?
