From the August/September 2001 issue
As the fate of polygamist Tom Green is debated in the courts and the media, one shouldn't lose sight of the larger issue his case raises. As Jacob Sullum asked on REASON ONLINE, Why is plural marriage illegal "in a free society that tolerates all manner of sexual relationships and living arrangements, in and out of wedlock"? (You can read the rest of Sullum's article here .) Polygamists aren't shy about asking the same question, and you can read their arguments for the practice on such Web sites as polygamy.com and truthbearer.org. For the other side of the issue, go to www.polygamyinfo.com. And for a historical perspective, check out testdocs.dced.state.ut.us/historytogo/historyofpolygamy.html.
