Police Chief Fired Over Sexual Harassment
Newton Falls Village Council voted unanimously Tuesday evening to terminate police Chief John Kuivila amid an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment made by a female employee.
By a vote of 5-0, council terminated Kuivila's contract effective immediately. The decision followed a 75-minute executive session and the measure was passed as an emergency "to protect the health, safety and welfare of the community."
Last month, a female employee accused the chief of making inappropriate comments about her body after she returned from maternity leave. Another female employee then accused Kuivila of threatening her if she told anyone about the sexual harassment claims.
