The chief of one of the state's largest police departments has been accused of ordering detectives in the Internal Affairs Unit to unfairly punish officers, doctor internal reports and run personal errands for him.

The allegations, filed against Irvington Police Chief Michael Chase in August, are contained in internal memos obtained recently by The Star-Ledger. They were filed by two internal affairs detectives and have been investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor' Office.
